Design Services

I offer a flexible range of services to help you, from a single one-off consultation to imaginative planting schemes or a full garden design.

Design work

Design work is charged at an hourly rate of £35. Design fees will vary depending on the complexity of the design and garden size. As a guide, a survey and detailed plan usually takes from 15 - 25 hours to produce, payable in instalments.

Consultation Visit

An opportunity to meet you, look at your garden and provide specific advice and design ideas on style, plants or hard landscaping materials. The visit can be followed up with written notes so that you have a record of ideas discussed or may be drawn up into a client brief and quotation should you wish to commission design work. There is a flat fee of £60 for this advisory visit (up to 2 hours), that can be deducted later from the cost of design work if commissioned.

Survey and Site Analysis

Following the acceptance of the quotation your garden will be fully surveyed. This is where the potential of the site will emerge and enables me to draw a plan to scale, with features that are in proportion to the size of the garden and where practical solutions can be developed. A detailed analysis is undertaken of existing plants, soil, aspect and levels. Where the site is extremely large or complex it may be necessary to engage a specialist surveyor.

Concept Design

A sketch drawing detailing suggestions and initial ideas based on the design brief and site survey. The basis for us to discuss, develop and approve the design proposal, hard landscaping materials and style of planting before the final drawings are produced.

Layout Plan

When the design and any alterations have been agreed, a coloured, hand drawn detailed plan is drawn up so that a contractor can cost and build the landscaping features.

Planting Plan

Planting plans can be commissioned as part of an overall garden design or to revamp an existing border. Your planting plan will be a separate scale drawing with details of names, position and number of specially chosen plants selected to enhance the garden design, suit soil type and aspect. A separate list of plant names, sizes and quantities will also be supplied for costing and ordering purposes. Prices will depend on the size of the scheme and usually cost between £150 and £500.

Planting Service

I can source and supply high quality plants at reasonable rates. Once construction work is completed I can co-ordinate delivery of plants, set out of plants according to the design and organise the planting. A garden maintenance service can be arranged if so required.

Additional Design Services

Setting out drawings and detailed construction drawings are charged at an hourly rate. Detailed specification documents may be necessary for large or complex projects to ensure the successful construction of the design.

Contractors

You may wish to undertake the landscaping yourself or use your own contractor. Alternatively I can suggest contractors who have built my garden designs to a high standard.

Project Monitoring

I can also oversee projects to ensure that work proceeds in accordance with the design. Alternatively, I can carry out periodic checking of the quality of the plants, materials or workmanship during the build. Again, fees are charged at an hourly rate of £35.
